Deanna Wormuth, CLED Director & EFL Director
MEd in Curriculum and Instruction, Texas A&M University
Ms. Wormuth has held administrative and instructional positions in the field of ESL for over thirty years. Before coming to Georgetown in 2002, she directed ESL programs at Towson University and at Texas A&M University. In 1989, she supervised the development of the Texas A&M University ESL program in Koriyama, Japan. Ms. Wormuth has taught all ESL subject areas and levels; however, most of her teaching has focused on writing, reading, and speaking skills for graduate and undergraduate students, visiting scholars, and researchers. She has conducted teacher training workshops in Chile, Japan, Taiwan, and, most recently, Egypt where, as a Fulbright Specialist, she presented workshops in writing assessment.
Ms. Wormuth is a former member of the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and is P ast President of the University and College Intensive English Program Consortium (UCIEP). She is a frequent presenter at TESOL and NAFSA conferences as well as the co-author of three texts on the teaching of writing. She enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures who, as members of the EFL community, contribute to our global cross-cultural understanding.
Mandy Kama, Senior Instructor & Academic Coordinator
MA in Speech Pathology, Louisiana State University
Ms. Kama joined the Georgetown faculty in 1991. Before becoming the Academic Coordinator in 2005, she typically taught listening and speaking skills at all levels. She co-designed and implemented a pronunciation program for the IEP and made numerous professional presentations on integrating pronunciation into IEPs. As Academic Coordinator, she coordinates the fall, spring and summer intensive programs and the three-week summer American Conversational English Program. Before coming to Georgetown, Ms. Kama taught in EFL programs at Louisiana State University and The University of Maryland.
Aly Massey, Director of Admissions
BA in History, College of William and Mary
Ms. Massey joined Georgetown EFL in 2012. As Director of Admissions, she is responsible for processing student applications and advising students on all immigration-related matters. She serves as the DSO (Designated School Official) for the Georgetown EFL program. As a current student in the Georgetown University Masters in Liberal Studies Program and the former Student Services Coordinator for the EFL program, Ms. Massey is very familiar with the University and all of its resources. In her free time she enjoys playing guitar and exploring the local DC culture
Carmen Hernandez, Student Services Coordinator
BA in English, Georgetown University
Ms. Hernandez joined the Georgetown EFL Department in 2015. Before becoming the Student Services Coordinator, she assisted the department as an office clerical assistant and as an exam proctor. As a Georgetown student, Ms. Hernandez was a DC Schools Parent Program tutor of ESL, Spanish, and citizenship material for campus employees. Along with administrative work, as the Student Services Coordinator, Ms. Hernandez now works with student questions, housing situations and plans Access DC events for EFL students to explore the DC area. In her free time, Ms. Hernandez enjoys cooking, reading, writing stories, drawing, and watching movies.
Claudia Houndje, Assistant Director of Admission
MA. in International Eduction, George Washington University
Ms. Houndje joined the Georgetown EFL Department in 2014. Prior to becoming the Assistant Director of Administration, she served as the Department Administrator for the East Asian Languages Department at Georgetown. Before arriving at Georgetown she worked as a Teacher of Language Arts and English as a Foreign Language. She also served as a Program Manager and Administrator for an international development organization supporting development programs in East, West and Central Africa. Ms. Houndje now works to ensure GU’s policies and procedures are respected through the execution of the department’s administrative activities. She also ensures the financial processing and reconciliation of expenses and supports the department’s Director in all administrative matters.
